Fromage Artisans

We established Fromage Artisans to rebrand cheese in our fair city by connecting Artisan Cheese Makers, their distributers and their stories to our local cheese obsessed population through Festival Fromage.

Festival Fromage is a boutique festival for lovers of cheese, artisan cheese makers and those liquor producers who make every cheese board experience that little more decadent and delightful. It is designed for those who prefer late nights, splendid conversations and a long table dinner party where cheese is the hero.

How did you get started in the industry?

Michael is a Chemical Engineer with a post grad in Dairy Technology and has worked in dairy and brewing industries for most of his career. He brings technical knowledge and experience but sometimes needs a bike to keep up with his business partner Danicia.

Danicia’s experience as Executive Director of Perth’s leading Fashion Festival and a long-standing career in marketing strategy and sponsorship delivery means everything she touches is covered in stylish sass. Danicia needs a bike because she is really likely to lose her license from dashing to get things done

What is your favourite Australian cheese?

This changes every weekend but we are quite partial to a Cambray Manchego, Berry Creek Riverine Buffalo Blue and Holy Goat La Luna.

What opportunities do you see for the future of the Australian specialty/artisan cheese industry?

There is a real opportunity to brand Australian cheeses in much the same way as wines, showing how they not only compete with their international alternatives but can outshine them. We see high end events as the vehicle for this change in mindset which is what we’re doing with Festival Fromage.

What does being part of ASCA mean to you?

As new members of the community we’d like to reach out and get in touch with all Australian artisan producers so we can source amazing cheese and then introduce it to Perth’s cheese mad public.
